Integrated Shiatsu & Swedish Massage/ Relaxation
75 to120 minutes
Flowing Swedish massage strokes are used to relax the body. Shiatsu pressure points, taken from traditional Chinese acupuncture, are applied by thumb pressure to release locked qi/energy. Shiatsu pressure points and stretches speed the body’s release of pain from muscle spasms or trauma. I have found this combination very effective for neck, shoulder, low back and sciatic issues.
Shiatsu
60 to 90 minutes
This Japanese treatment uses traditional acupuncture meridians/lines and points. Shiatsu stretches increase flexibility and get the energy moving along meridian lines sooner. Shiatsu treats injury on the physical level to release the body; emotional level to remove blockages and conscious level to remove the thoughts we stored at the injury site. It is helpful for chronic ailments such as arthritis, acid reflux, sciatic, asthma, PMS, insomnia and much more. This treatment can be performed over gym clothing for the modest.
Tui na
60 to 90 minutes
Tui na is one of the oldest Chinese treatments. Tui means to stroke or rub; na means to grasp. Tui na is used orthopedically to relieve muscle or joint pain and injury, or restoratively to resolve digestive or menstrual issues (like PMS or perimenopause symptoms). Range of motion and flexibility are restored to shoulders, low backs and hips. Tui na is used by the Chinese Olympic trainers to keep their athletes in top condition. For the modest, this treatment can be performed over gym clothing.
Qigong
60 to 90 minutes
Qi means breath or energy; gong means work. So qigong means breath/energy work. It is a process based on traditional Chinese meridians and points that uses breath training to release blocked qi, mind/body exercises, guided visualizations, and meditation that help the practitioner create a place of health and balance for the themselves and their clients. Qigong allows the therapist to work deeper with less physical pressure on the client.
Usui Reiki Treatment
30 to 60 minutes
Reiki comes to us from Japan and means universal/rei energy/ki. The energy or ki passes through the practitioner to the client by either light touch or no touch. The client is usually lying down, fully clothed, passively receiving energy during the treatment. Reiki is used to reduce stress, relieve pain, speed healing and reduce the effects of trauma.
Western Techniques
Myofascial Mobilization (Release)
60 to 90 minutes
Myofascial Mobilization/Release is a process that works the muscles/myo and the fascia (the saran wrap like thin white connective tissue surrounding muscle fibers). It lengthens the tissue through various types of manipulations to the muscle/fascia system. It can be combined with other therapies such as shiatsu, movement therapies, craniosacral therapy, exercise and flexibility programs. Myofascial Release can help alter the fascia in combination with medical, dental or psychological interventions.
Myofascial Mobilization views the client as a integrated, complex whole requiring working the tissue in multiple directions. It treats the client's current issues, as well as previous misalignments, that may set up future injuries. The myofascial work accepts the client's present body as "normal". The work does not force the body to release; rather it waits for the tissue to release/elongate. Thus, it restores the client to proper posture and alignment. When the restrictions and tightness are removed the body returns to a more efficient posture. Clients have been known to report "this is the best I've felt in years" or "I can tie my shoes in the morning!"
Deep Tissue Massage
60 to 90 minutes
In deep tissue massage, I use a combination of two techniques. One is Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) which works along and across the nerve pathways that trigger the muscles to contract or go into spasm. The second is Trigger Point Therapy (TPT) which puts pressure on the point of the muscle which is in spasm that causes it to release. The muscles and points to work are found by the pain pattern described by the client and by touch.
Reflexology
Reflexology came to us from Japan. It focuses on pressure points on the feet, hands, and face that correspond to the organs of the body. Where there is pain, there is imbalance. By working the pressure point, the imbalance is corrected. I have used it to help women with cystic breasts, pms, and perimenopausal symptoms.
Sports Massage
Sports massage utilizes specific strokes and stretches to help athletes obtain maximum performance and physical conditioning by increasing the muscles abilities to contract and extend. This increases power, endurance and mobility. Sports massage is helpful for anyone who routinely stretches their physical limits through movement like swimmers, runners, golfers, tennis players, skaters, dancers and weight lifters.
Sports massage is administered in three categories:
-
Training:
Muscular stress can result from repetitive or stressful motion and are precursors to injury. Sports massage assists to relieve muscular stress and prevent injuries, enabling harder and more consistent training.
-
Pre-Event:
A quick treatment (rapid, rhythmic pumping action) is a supplement to warm-up routines. It boosts circulation, increases flexibility and range of motion; thereby reducing muscle pain and soreness. Relaxed muscles, ready for action, help prevent tendon injuries and reduce strain and discomfort during training.
-
Post-Event:
Recovery after a competition involves normalization and repair of tissue, general relaxation and mental calming. Sports massage increases circulation, toxin removal, relieves muscle spasms and prevent soreness to return the athlete to pre-event condition.
Swedish Massage
Swedish massage is most often the base of western massage therapy. The strokes of effleurage (milking muscles), petressage (kneading), friction (creating heat), vibration (rapid shaking) and tapotement (tapping) are Swedish massage’s foundation. This massage is generally used for relaxation and the first time massage recipient.
Trigger Point
Trigger point therapy is used to relieve a muscle that is in spasm. A muscle in spasm is usually manifests a large, lumpy, knot. Muscles contract into spasm when overused, overstretched, or injured. Each muscle has a point, or points, to which firm, steady pressure can be applied to release the spasm. This treatment is applied on necks, shoulders, backs, hips, and sprained ankles with much relief.
Neuromuscular
Neuromuscular therapy is used to relieve muscle spasms as is trigger point. With neuromuscular therapy the therapist works along or across the muscle with deep pressure following the nerve pathways. This technique combines very well with trigger point therapy.
"In my line
of work, I hurt my low back and hips a lot. Sandy's knowledge of
the muscles, nerves and bones allows her to stop my pain, release
the muscles and get me back on the job in hours rather than days.
She also has helped me with a foot I injured in a motorcycle crash
20 years ago. I now have days without pain and I can now rise up
on my toes to dance cha-cha and other Latin dances."
